Michael probably wasn't, that's one of the reasons why he resorted to that asspull curse. But at this point of the scenario, Sorey is powerful enough to do so. How would he manage the Heldalf situation? He basically can't guarantee that he'd never do something that could be perceived as morally wrong, who is he to judge him? At the end of the day, Sorey kills Heldalf. He knows how hard, heartbreaking and mindcrushing being the "chosen" can be. Imo, Sorey can't form a decent opinion on Michael, and he can't really judge a person that shouldered his burden previously. Berseria is the same way but better, both camps do terrible/great things. And the demon king might have some circumstances to explain his actions (well to some extent. He's human, with his flaws, issues and failures. Zestiria is pretty classical and tells you the story of the hero of the demon king, but it adds stuff to tell you that the (former) hero is not necessarily a good person. An oath that would most likely take something important from Lailah (maybe even her life) if she were to break it. There's a whole part of the story we don't know about because "OATH". Only Heldalf gets a decent development, the rest are basically walking meme with obscure motives (if they have any) and are never/rarely really showed interacting and agreeing with each other in any meaningful way.īlaming Michael for his mistakes would just hurt Lailah, who was supposed to guide him, and didn't for unknown reasons. Zestiria is heavily flawed with its antagonists/villains (in this case I feel it's fine to refer as them as villain tbh x)). What's the point in blaming someone that isn't here anymore? The present threat is Heldalf, not Michael. Heldalf kinda felt that way, because his actions led to what happened to him, so I don't really feel sympathy for him now or then). Most Tales games have grey antagonists, it may be more interesting than straight up evil characters (tbh it's so overused that once in a while, a villain who is a total ass is fine imo. Antagonists oppose the party's objective and mind-set, it doesn't mean they're necessarily "evil". For starters they are antagonists, not necessarily "villains", there's obviously a difference between the 2. I feel extremely conflicted about how I view the game's portrayal of protagonists vs villains PSA: This will be long, so if you're not interested in a long answer, just read the first paragraph.
